Who created PlottingCoordinates.com and the CoordinArt designs found here?
Nancy Patrick began creating designs for her students in 2008. As a middle school math teacher, Nancy was frustrated not being able to find quality plotting practice that was more appropriate, and therefore, engaging for her students. It was important to use ALL FOUR quadrants of the coordinate plane. The US Presidential election for 2008 was what launched her first creations for her students. She first created the iconic symbols of both the Democrat and Republican parties. The students selected the party design of their choice. After the election Nancy’s students really wanted her to make one of President-Elect Obama, so she did.
Nancy was amazed how engaged her students were. They colored the portraits as realistic as possible, and were quite proud of their work. She displayed at least a dozen of the finished portraits in the hall. What happened next was unexpected. Students stopped on their way to and from classes to look at the individual student work. They talked about which one they liked most and why. One student approached Nancy to ask if there was an extra one that he could do! At that point she knew she needed to create more designs and make them available for all teachers to access.
PlottingCoordinates.com became a reality, and Nancy spent endless hours feverishly creating content for a few years. When Nancy began work on her National Board Certification and holding various teacher leaderships roles within her school district, new CoordinArt designs could not be a priority till sometime in retirement. Spring of 2022, PlottingCoordinates.com received a brand new look. Nancy has plans to begin adding additional content beginning summer of 2022. She hopes you and your students appreciate current and future designs.
