For over 200 years the White House has been symbol of the Us Presidency. Although President Washington oversaw the construction of the White House, he never lived innit. It was nearly complete in 1800 when President  John Adams and his wife Abigail moved in. In 1814, the White House survived a fire at the hands of the British during the War of 1812. A second fire occurred in the West Wing in 1929 while Herbert Hoover was President.  There are 132 rooms and 35 bathrooms in the White House. For more information check out “About the White House
